Directions: Cross the Cape Cod Canal via the Sagamore Bridge following Route 6 to Exit 85 (old exit11). Turn right onto Route 137 towards Brewster, following it until the end before arriving at Shady Knoll, directly across from Route 6A.

The Brewster Flats are tidal flats on Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts, particularly near the town of Brewster, and are a unique environment. They are the widest expanse of tidal flats in North America, rivaled in the western hemisphere only by a similar expanse in Brazil.

Stony Brook Grist Mill and Museum

Stony Brook Grist Mill and Museum

The Grist mill uses the falling water of Stony Brook to power its waterwheel. Inside, the miller grinds corn on the turning millstones. Visitors may purchase fresh cornmeal as a souvenir of their visit. Upstairs, the Museum features artifacts of Cape Cod life in the 1800’s, and an antique loom used for weaving demonstrations. Photos and descriptive signs tell the story of Brewster’s sea-faring history, the Herring Run and the industrial development of Factory Village.

Crosby Landing is a beautiful bay beach located a short distance off Route 6A heading east towards Orleans. One of the larger Brewster beaches, it offers scenic views of Cape Cod Bay, warm water, and great parking. It is located within walking distance of Nickerson State Park. Farther east off Route 6A, is Crosby Beach, which is ideal for beach walkers. There are lots of little pools at low tide and nice sand for kids to play in.

The Crosby mansion in Brewster is a monument to an earlier time, a time of opulence, grandeur and painstaking craftsmanship. Standing tall on a rise of land with sweeping views of Cape Cod bay, the three-story mansion is also a monument to romance. It is the legacy of a man who went west to make his fortune and returned to the cape with a bride 20 years his junior, for whom he built the mansion called Tawasentha.

In the mid 1960’s on Cape Cod, Bill Sydenstricker developed a new craft inspired by the extensive research he had conducted while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on early Egyptian art. His efforts resulted in new and exciting glass designs produced by a method similar to the ancient art of enameling.
